Your details
One line per bullet. Start each with a verb and put a number in it where you can.
Your resume
Print sets the page to A4 with the resume only. Choose "Save as PDF" in the print dialog.
Why this format
One column, standard headings, no tables or graphics. That is what screening software reads correctly and what recruiters scan fastest.
- Headings in this order: Summary, Experience, Education, Certifications, Skills. Software looks for these words.
- Results, not duties. "Prepared monthly reports" is a duty. "Cut month-end close from 10 to 6 days" is a result.
- One page for under 10 years of experience, two at most after that.
- Leave out photo, date of birth, NRIC or IC number, marital status and religion. Singapore's fair employment guidelines ask employers not to collect them at application, and Malaysian employers increasingly follow suit.
- Work status matters to employers in both countries: say Citizen, PR, or the pass you hold.
Common questions
Should I include expected salary?
Not on the resume. If the application form asks, give a figure based on the official medians for your job and experience.
What about a fresh graduate with no work experience?
Put Education first, then internships and projects under Experience with the same result-style bullets. See graduate starting pay for your course.
Can I save it as Word?
Use Copy text and paste into Word or Google Docs; the headings and bullets carry across. Or save the print version as PDF.
