Salary comparison Malaysia

See where your monthly pay sits against the government pay scale for your scheme and grade, the DOSM figures for your industry and state, and what the Industrial Court has recorded for similar jobs.

Quick answer: Malaysia publishes no pay distribution by job, so this check places your pay on three published scales: the SSPA salary scale for the matching government scheme (minimum, starting point, yearly increment, maximum), DOSM's median and mean salary for your industry and state, and the middle 50% of last-drawn pay in Industrial Court awards for the nearest job family.

Your details

Use your basic monthly pay before deductions. Allowances are compared separately where the government pays fixed ones.

Pick the scheme closest to your job, even if you work in the private sector. The scale is the public-service benchmark for that work.
Optional, for a closer comparison

What you enter is kept without your name, email or IP address and appears only in grouped figures, so these pages can show private-sector pay by job over time, which no official source publishes for Malaysia. Privacy notice.

How the comparison works

Malaysia has no published pay distribution by job, so the check uses three published yardsticks instead of a percentile.

  • Government scale: each scheme and grade has a minimum, a starting point for new entrants, a yearly increment (KGT) and a maximum, from the SSPA salary scale in Budget 2026. Your pay is placed between the starting point and the maximum, and the gap is expressed in yearly increments.
  • DOSM: the Salaries and Wages Survey gives the median and mean monthly salary of paid employees by industry (2024) and by state (2025, citizens). These cover all jobs in the industry or state, so they describe the market around you, not your job.
  • Industrial Court: awards published from 2019 to 2025 record the last-drawn pay of dismissed employees. Grouped into job families with 20 or more awards, they give a middle 50% for experienced private-sector staff. They lean towards senior and long-serving people.

Common questions

I work in the private sector. Which scheme should I pick?

The scheme whose work matches yours: an engineer picks Jurutera J9, an accountant Akauntan WA9, a software developer Pegawai Teknologi Maklumat F9. The government scale is then a benchmark, and the DOSM and court figures describe private pay around it.

Why is there no percentile like the Singapore check?

Singapore's Ministry of Manpower publishes the 25th percentile, median and 75th percentile for each job. Malaysia's DOSM publishes medians by industry, state, skill level and occupation group, not by job title, so a percentile for your job cannot be computed from official data.

What is saved when I check?

The scheme, age band, pay and any optional detail you give, with the country and time. No name, email, IP address, device or visitor id. The privacy notice has the details.

Do the government figures include allowances?

The scale is basic pay. Where a scheme has fixed allowances (ITP, ITKA, BISH, BIPK), the check shows the starting pay with allowances in Kuala Lumpur as a separate figure.
