What a new government auditor earns

Starting basic pay at W9 runs from RM2,470 with an honours degree to RM3,240 as an MIA member. Fixed allowances add RM900 in Kuala Lumpur.

How pay grows on the government scale

Grade 9 pay rises RM225 a year, from the starting point up to RM11,110. Promotion to W10 and above moves an auditor onto a higher range.

• Increments only: from RM3,020, about 36 yearly increments reach RM11,110.
• Promotion grades: W10 starts at RM3,840 and W12 to W14 at RM5,530 to RM6,560.

Compared with Malaysian pay overall

A new government auditor with an accounting degree, RM3,920 fixed pay, sits above the finance industry median of RM3,752.

• Finance industry median covers every job in banks and insurers.
• Measures differ: DOSM figures cover all paid employees and all ages. The government figure is one fixed pay point. Use them for scale, not as a direct comparison.

Auditors in private firms

No official source publishes auditor pay in private firms. Finance and accounting staff named in 83 Industrial Court awards between 2019 and 2025 had a median last-drawn pay of RM6,162.

• Court awards: middle 50% from RM4,000 to RM11,300, across 80 employers. The group includes accountants, finance managers and auditors, mostly experienced.
• DOSM publishes salaries by industry, state and skill level, but not by job title.
• Private surveys and job ads use different measures and samples, so their figures are not mixed into the tables here.

Data sources and coverage

Government pay for auditors is exact. Private-sector pay rests on industry medians and a court-award sample.

• Compared with Singapore: Singapore's MOM publishes median pay by job title, age and industry. Malaysia publishes exact government pay scales but no market-wide figure by job.
• What a payslip shows is basic plus allowances plus any shift, on-call or overtime pay, so it can be higher than the fixed figures here.

Is auditing affected by AI?

The International Labour Organization rates accountants High for exposure to generative AI. Its scores cover the job worldwide, so they apply in Malaysia too.

• Average task score 0.51 out of 1, across 8 main tasks.
• Most exposed task: Preparing and certifying financial statements for presentation to management, shareholders and statutory or other bodies (0.65).
