IT jobs in private firms
No official source publishes IT pay by job title in Malaysia. The ICT industry median of RM4,231 is the closest official figure.
- Industrial Court awards name only 13 IT and digital workers, too few to publish a median.
- DOSM publishes salaries by industry, state and skill level, but not by job title.
- Private surveys and job ads use different measures and samples, so their figures are not mixed into the tables here.
Data sources and coverage
Government pay for IT officers is exact. Private-sector pay rests on the ICT industry median.
| Source | What it gives | Strength |
|---|---|---|
| SPA service scheme | Starting basic pay by qualification; direct-entry grades | Strong: official and current |
| Budget 2026, SSPA pay scale | Minimum, maximum and yearly increment for every grade | Strong: official and current |
| JPA SSPA circular, Lampiran E | Fixed allowances by grade, area and scheme | Strong: official |
| DOSM Salaries & Wages Survey 2024 and 2025 | Industry and occupation-group medians | Weak for one job title |
| Industrial Court awards 2019 to 2025 | 13 IT and digital awards: below our 20-award threshold | Not shown |
| Private IT pay by title | Nothing official | None |
- Compared with Singapore: Singapore's MOM publishes median pay by job title, age and industry. Malaysia publishes exact government pay scales but no market-wide figure by job.
- What a payslip shows is basic plus allowances plus any shift, on-call or overtime pay, so it can be higher than the fixed figures here.
Is IT work affected by AI?
The International Labour Organization rates systems analysts Moderate for exposure to generative AI. Its scores cover the job worldwide, so they apply in Malaysia too.
- Average task score 0.49 out of 1, across 7 main tasks.
- Most exposed task: Developing functional specifications for use by systems developers (0.56).
- Least exposed task: Expanding or modifying systems to improve workflow or serve new purposes (0.43). The full breakdown is on our Singapore guide.
- What exposure measures: how much of the work AI could do or speed up. It does not measure job cuts.
